Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle Had Some Weird Tense Drama Over Lip Gloss
Remember when everyone was worried Prince Harry’s book would be a snoozy rehash of everything he already said in his Netflix docuseries? Lol, no. The Duke of Sussex truly came through with the royal tea in Spare and even touched on Meghan Markle’s tense relationship with Kate Middleton.
In a leak from the memoir (one of...many) published in Page Six, Harry recalls one “awkward moment” when Meghan asked to borrow some of Kate’s lip gloss—which Harry describes as an “American thing.” The request came ahead of their joint appearance at the Royal Foundation Forum in 2018, and don’t worry, there’s a photo:
“Kate, taken aback, went into her handbag and reluctantly pulled out a small tube,” Harry wrote. “Meg squeezed some onto her finger and applied it to her lips. Kate grimaced.”
Harry added that the Fab Four “should’ve been able to laugh about” the incident, and said that the press “sensed” there was “something bigger,” accusing Kate of being “on edge” because she knew she was “going to be compared to, and forced to compete with, Meg.”
Elsewhere in the memoir, Harry detailed a tense argument between Meghan and Kate where Kate didn’t react well to her sister-in-law saying she had “baby brain.” Apparently, the couples sat down over tea to hash it out, where Kate told Meghan she “was owed an apology” and said “we’re not close enough for you to talk about my hormones.” On top of that, Harry says that William “pointed at Meg” and called her “rude,” prompting Harry to shoot back “kindly take your finger out of my face.”
Truly thought nothing could get more awkward than my family gatherings, but wow.
