Kate Middleton Is Expected to Wear a “Modernized” Dress to the Coronation
Please go ahead and set your alarm to the crack of dawn this Saturday (or, like…don’t), because King Charles’s coronation is officially going down and it’s poised to be very extra. And naturally, there’s been a lot of speculation about what everyone’s wearing—especially Kate Middleton (the tiara convo alone is peak drama).
According to royal fashion expert and British Fashion Council member Josh Birch Jones (who spoke to Page Six), the royals are opting for ~modernized~ vibes at the coronation, but we can expect Kate to be in a statement look.
“All eyes will be focused on the Princess of Wales, who will inevitably attract attention with her classic yet personal style approach,” Birch Jones explains. “Kate’s new title holds much responsibility, meaning that her participation during the coronation will be heavily watched, so a statement look is called for.”
Birch Jones said he expects Kate to wear a dress by British brand Catherine Walker (one of Princess Diana’s faves) and notes that “jewelry will also play a prominent role for the coronation; therefore, I predict we may see Kate turn to the royal jewelry collection for this event.” He adds that we’ll see Kate “possibly wearing pieces in honor of the late Princess Diana or Queen Elizabeth, despite often opting for more casual jewelry options from brands such as Zara.”
Meanwhile, apparently, Queen Camilla is being dressed by designer Bruce Oldfield, and “with the decision to hold a more relaxed coronation, expect to see a more modern gown for this historical moment.”
