Kaley Cuoco Recounts 'Horrible' Accident Where She Almost Lost a Leg
Kaley Cuoco's life could have changed forever years ago, when she was involved in a severe horseback riding accident that almost caused her to lose her leg.
The new mom and Flight Attendant star, 37, recently made an appearance on Apple's SmartLess podcast, where she told co-hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes all about the terrifying experience that happened over 10 years ago.
"It was a bad accident, it was a very bad accident,” Cuoco said of the 2010 incident, which took place at a Los Angeles ranch after her horse got spooked and knocked her off. As the horse tried to jump over her, it ended up landing on her left leg, causing severe injuries that led to the actress being rushed to the hospital.
"I remember clear as day, because it takes a second when something is that bad," she recounted in the June 5 podcast episode. "I was like, 'Did I just fall on a whole thing of leaves?' Because I heard all the cracking…It took me like five or 10 seconds to actually realize it wasn’t just 400 leaves, it was my bones."

The Big Bang Theory alum explained that she had suffered a "compound fracture" in her tibia and fibula during the accident, which results in a bone piercing through skin.
“It just was a horrible, horrible, horrible break," she insisted, noting that she had to sign a release before going into surgery to allow doctors to amputate her leg if it couldn't be salvaged.
“It was miraculous,” she said of her surgery, noting that she now has some hardware in her leg as a result. "I've got some good scars. It makes you feel like a badass."
