Kai Lenny Tow Surfs Hydrofoil Behind Horse (Clip)
As a multihyphenate waterman, Kai Lenny rides waves in all types of ways.
He surfs (in the traditional sense), kitesurfs, windsurfs, hydrofoils surfs, standup paddleboard surfs, tow surfs, and probably a few others that I can’t remember right now.
But here’s something totally different from the Maui surfer, a new one to add to his wave riding résumé.
Captioning the video, Kai wrote:
“Adding Horse Tow-in Foiling to the list of fun ways to ride waves! My wife @mollylenny_ is incredible on horses and this experience was so special.”
And it wasn’t just a mellow trot; Kai’s wife, Molly, got the horse going to a pretty fast gallop. And although he didn’t quite catch a wave, instead primarily staying parallel to the shoreline, Kai got some serious speed from the equine-assisted tow ride.
Pros of tow surfing via horse:
It’s badass.
It’s eco-friendly.
Cons:
You gotta stay pretty close to shore, limiting the types of waves you can ride.
Yeah, it’s not likely that horse tow surfing will take off. Regardless, though, it’s something new and different; and people in the comments found it pretty cool.
“The horses know da rulez,” wrote surf filmmaker, Tucker Wooding.
“This has to be a first ever!” chirped surf phenom, Erin Brooks.
“That’s so sick,” wrote fellow Maui boy and big-wave surfer, Torrey Meister. “Love it!”
