Craving comfy, chic shoes? A podiatrist picks the 7 best pairs from the 4th of July sales

There’s no such thing as too many comfortable shoes. Sure, pumps and heels might look cute in the box, but they’re not exactly what you want to spend all day (or night) in. Sneakers, padded sandals, flats with arch support — those are the kinds of shoes we’re all about right now. Pinched toes? Blisters? No thanks.
However, as any podiatrist will tell you, not all comfy shoes are created equal. They also often come with a steep price tag. Thanks to 4th of July sales, though, you can snag the supportive footwear of your dreams at an almost too-good-to-be-true price. And to help you select the perfect pair, we recruited podiatrist Dr. Dana Canuso, DPM. She sifted through the sales to pick the best of the best — and she’s sharing her favorites with you.

Vionic Kaitlyn
Whatever your summer holds — beach days, cookouts, nights out — this wedge can handle it all. The dressy style has an espadrille sole and a durable fabric upper. It comes in two colors, black and the creamy oat shade above.
“These have a supportive heel and sole, and I like how you can tighten the ribbon if your feet swell during the day,” Dr. Canuso shares with Yahoo Life.
Vionic Kani Slip-on Sneaker
These streamlined, sporty kicks have a chunky platform sole and a perforated suede upper. They’re the ultimate ‘wear everywhere’ shoe. And Dr. Canuso loves how easy they are to tweak to your particular foot. “These come in many colors and would be perfect if you wear custom molded orthotics,” she shares.
Linea Paolo Felicia Wedge Bootie
Dr. Canuso isn’t the only fan of these gorgeous leather shoes. They have over 1,300 reviews and an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars. The chunky sole and easy-to-walk in wedge add height, yet are still decidedly comfortable — even if you’re not much of a heels gal.
“These are good to get a jumpstart on fall,” the podiatrist advises. “The wedge and support built into this bootie could help with plantar fasciitis and Morton’s neuroma pain.”
Aerosoles Pennsville
Dr. Canuso declared these her ‘favorite’ of the bunch and it’s easy to see why. The wedge might look scary at first, but the cork makes it so lightweight. Plus, the platform makes these beauties easier to walk in than you’d think.
“Aerosoles has made this shoe for years for good reason!” the doctor says. “The look is timeless and the design of the shoe lends itself to a comfortable all-day wear for most foot types.”
Fitflop Freya Snake-Print Sneakers
This sneaker’s three levels of targeted cushioning and slip-resistant rubber sole makes them a fantastic choice for everyday wear. The snake print sure is easy on the eyes, too.
“The perfect shoe when you are finally able to walk around European cities all day again!” Dr. Canuso raves. “These sneakers are very shock absorbent and offer a ‘rocker bottom’ feel which helps relieve ball of foot and heel pain.”
Sam Edelman Catherine Platform Flat
If summer was a shoe, it would be this pair of Sam Edelman flats. A woven leather upper and jute-wrapped sole makes them a must for beach days and alfresco lunches. They’ll look so cute with jeans and dresses alike — though it’s not just about the aesthetics. “The stiff sole on this shoe is good for those with a neutral foot type and helps disperse pressure evenly while walking,” Dr. Canuso notes.
Clarks Sharon Ranch Pewter
If you’re on your feet all day — educators, we’re looking at you — this shoe is a must. Subtly sporty yet thoroughly classic, this chunky loafer has a wedge heel, tread sole and Cushion Soft foam layers, so your feet feel like they’re enveloped by clouds.
“I like these for their versatility, heel height and support,” Dr. Canuso shares. “The color goes from summer to fall and the style can be dressed up or down.”
