Josh Duhamel Gives Fans a Tour of His ‘Doomsday Prepper’ Compound
Josh Duhamel appeared on In Depth with Graham Bensinger to show off his lakeside “tropical paradise” which functions as a doomsday retreat.
Duhamel bought the 26-acre Minnesota compound about 15 years ago when his father showed him the land. “He knew I wanted a place that was away from everything, something remote,” the Shotgun Wedding star told Bensinger.
Since then, he’s spent “a lot of my money” fashioning the land to his family’s specific needs. In addition to two rustic but spacious cabins, Duhamel installed a water-front sauna, functional outhouses, and three separate wells.
“That's huge,” Duhamel told the host of his multiple H20 sources. “You probably know I’m a bit of a doomsday prepper, and I think water is gonna be something we’re all gonna be in desperate need [of] at some point. Hopefully not, but that could be the case.”
The 50-year-old then took Bensinger inside, where he showed off the renovations made to the cabins. Though they may look fairly reserved for a movie star, Duhamel assured his guest that, “This place is the Four Seasons now compared to what it was. We pulled up the whole floor and found just carcasses of raccoons and mice.” The actor then proudly shows off the skull of a skunk he found beneath the house.
“What I acquired it for is a fraction of what I put into it,” Duhamel admitted. “I spend a lot of my money out here. My business manager doesn’t love it. But I’m like, ‘You don’t get it, man.’ I’d rather buy tractors and attachments for my tractors than some Ferrari in Los Angeles.
Duhamel told Bensinger he’ll never sell the cabin, which is why he’s not bothered about the investment. He plans to keep the land forever in the family, passing it down to his sons and to generations thereafter.
“This is where I get a lot of joy,” Duhamel reflected. “I think anytime you’re out in the woods or anywhere close to nature, it does something for your soul.”
