Jonathan and Drew Scott renovate their parents' new LA home — take a tour

"Property Brothers" duo Jonathan and Drew Scott have unveiled a project that they hold near and dear to their hearts.

The HGTV stars shared in the September/October issue of HGTV Magazine that they recently gave their parents, Joanne and Jim Scott, the ultimate home makeover.

The Scott brothers said that after convincing their mom and dad to relocate to Los Angeles to be closer to them and their grandkids, the twins wanted to help "get their house right."

Jonathan and Drew Scott went on a quest to find the ideal home for their parents, and found a Spanish-styled bungalow built in 1928.

“We wanted our parents to feel just as much at home here as they did at their ranch in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, so we tailored the home perfectly to them,” the brothers wrote.

The pair renovated the home to be more rustic and got their parents' input on paint colors. Drew and Jonathan Scott also designed specific rooms for their parents, like a painting room for their mom and a music room for their dad.

“They couldn’t be happier, and we’re so thrilled with this project that we filmed the whole reno process for our new show, ‘Don’t Hate Your House with the Property Brothers,’” the Scott brothers wrote.

Front patio

The Scott brothers said that the front patio, which they expanded and covered with terra-cotta tiles, is their mom's favorite spot. They bought a red oak door versus a white oak for budget purposes, and bleached it to replicate the look.

"We got that resourcefulness from Mom and Dad," they said of the workaround.

Living room

Jonathan and Drew Scott built a new floor-to-ceiling fireplace in the living room.

“For as long as we can remember, family gatherings have revolved around the fireplace,” the twins wrote.

While a fireplace already existed in the home, the brothers said that it "was not quite the focal point Mom and Dad were looking for." So, they crafted a fireplace for their parents that suited "the space and their lives better."

Dining room

In the dining room, the Scott brothers explained that they aimed to combine storage with style. They did this by building glass cabinets for pictures and memorable familial decorations that "make the place feel like home."

The bar

Jonathan and Drew Scott used an archway, a tile backsplash and a floating shelf to carve out a drinks station for their parents when they entertain.

Bedroom

The Scott brothers shared that their dad specifically requested blue bedroom walls for their bedroom, which popped against neutral shades that filled out the rest of the room.

Guest bathroom

The brothers built a guest suite located above the garage for when friends and family from Canada come visit. The space follows a blue and white palette, from the hexagon shapes on the floor to the square tiles bordering the bathtub.

Backyard and patio

Jonathan and Drew Scott constructed a pergola in the backyard as a statement piece that provided some shade. They wanted the yard to act as their parents' "own private oasis."
