When washable rug brand Ruggable approached designer Jonathan Adler to ask him to collaborate on a collection, it was an immediate yes. As the owner of a small dog, Adler is intimately familiar with the lengths people go to protect their rug and felt Ruggable—whose two-piece carpets feature a pad and a top layer that can be tossed in a washing machine— could address both style and functionality. “I think design is about problem solving,” Adler explains. “It should be chic, but you should also be able to live with it.”

The collection—Ruggable’s first with a major home designer—consists of eight of Adler’s most recognizable designs in a variety of pop-y colorways and sizes, not to mention a much more affordable price point ranging from $90 to $719. It was important to him not to stray too far from his signature style in order to make his luxury brand accessible to a new audience. “I wanted to do a deep dive into my creative top hits,” Adler says, “It was important to play with color and be bolder in a way you can do only with the flexibility of Ruggable.”

The collection opens up a whole new market for both Adler and Ruggable: luxury design lovers with kids or pets who previously didn’t see the value in investing in a designer rug.

Quips Adler, “If I say so myself, JA rug have always been wantable, but now they’re also washable.”
