Joey King Says the "Sacrifice" of Working with Ex Jacob Elordi on "The Kissing Booth 2" Was "Totally Worth It"
Fans of The Kissing Booth 2 were super excited when it was announced that Jacob Elordi will be back playing Noah Flynn in the sequel. Many fans were wondering if the Euphoria star would return to reprise his role after his big breakup with his co-star, Joey King, and it seemed like they were total professionals about the whole thing.
While talking on the podcast, Mood With Lauren Elizabeth, Joey opens up about having to work with her ex and what it meant for her to return to playing Elle despite their relationship not working out IRL.
"I'm a fan with how it resonated with the world, it resonated with me. So going back and doing that and making the sacrifice of what, obviously, everyone is thinking about — outwardly addressing, but what I'm kind of on the sly addressing, making those sacrifices was totally worth it," Joey revealed.
She also noted that the reason why she went back and did it is because of her love for the movie itself.
"It's a real thing. It was fine. It was good and, I think for me, because I am very much as friggin' huge fan of The Kissing Booth myself, which sounds really narcissistic, but I am. It’s my night light at night sometimes is The Kissing Booth," she said. "Because I don’t want to watch 'Oh I don’t know what’s going to happen and I’m really invested to see what thing they’re baking on the Great British Baking Show.' But, I’ve already seen The Kissing Booth so it's my night light. It's a great movie. Whatever."
While she might have said that her experience with her ex might have been sort of awkward, Joey couldn't stop gushing about her other co-star, Joel Courtney, and getting to work with him again on the sequel.
"It was crazy, it was a wild experience. But, honestly, it was a really beautiful time. Because I learned a lot about myself and I grew as an actor. I grew as a person on this. And, obviously, going back and shooting with one of my real best friends in life, which is Joel Courtney, who plays Lee in the movie was phenomenal. He's just like one of my favorite co-stars I've ever had, because he's such a great actor."
Still, despite all the awkwardness that was bound to happen on set, Joey was still super excited to get back into Elle's shoes.
"Playing Elle Evans was genuinely one of the best experiences of my life. Kissing Booth 1 is always going to be one of the greatest experiences that I've ever had," she said. "So getting to jump back in was super exciting for me."
