Joe Sugg, known as vlogger ThatcherJoe, becomes Strictly Come Dancing's first YouTube star contestant
Joe Sugg has become the fourth officially named contestant on Strictly Come Dancing – and with it, the BBC One show's first vlogger on the dancefloor.
Sugg, who is known to his 8 million YouTube subscribers as "ThatcherJoe, is part of a strong vlogger heritage: his sister Zoe is one of the UK's most prominent YouTube stars Zoella.
His addition to the line-up, which currently includes broadcaster and campaigner Katie Piper, former Steps pop star Faye Tozer and Red Dwarf actor Danny John-Jules, marks a move from the BBC to encourage more young viewers to tune into this year's competition.
Sugg, whose online moniker refers to his training as a roof thatcher, said that his "knowledge of dance isn't the best, so I'm just going to go into it completely open minded,”
He added that he was "pretty nervous" about being made over for the show. "I just hope they have child sizes as I'm tiny!”
Sugg started his YouTube account in 2011 and has since achieved online fame that has previously landed him on the BBC in Joe and Caspar Hit the Road, with fellow YouTuber Caspar Lee.
