Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar Break Silence Over Scathing Docuseries
Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are speaking out amid the new Prime Video docuseries about the scandals and secrets that have plagued the famous reality TV family for years.
The new program, entitled Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets, released on the streaming service Friday, June 2, and the 19 Kids and Counting parents released a statement on their official website the same day.
"The recent 'documentary' that talks about our family is sad because in it we see the media and those with ill intentions hurting people we love," the couple wrote in the statement, entitled "A Note from Jim Bob and Michelle."
"Like other families, ours too has experienced the joys and heartbreaks of life, just in a very public format," they continued. "This 'documentary' paints so much and so many in a derogatory and sensationalized way because sadly that’s the direction of entertainment these days."
Jim Bob, 57, and Michelle, 56, went on to say, "We have always believed that the best chance to repair damaged relationships, or to reconcile differences, is through love in a private setting. We love every member of our family and will continue to do all we can to have a good relationship with each one. Through both the triumphs and the trials we have clung to our faith all the more and discovered that through the love and grace of Jesus, we find strength, comfort, and purpose."

The four-part limited series promises to uncover the several controversies, scandals and secrets surrounding the larger-than-life family, including the saga of their eldest child, Josh Duggar.
For those who need a refresher, reports surfaced in 2015 that Josh had molested five girls when he was a teenager, including four of whom were his own sisters. Fast forward to 2021, Josh was arrested and later convicted of possession of child pornography charges and received a 12.5-year prison sentence.
In addition to their own family scandals, the docuseries also promises a deep-dive into the fundamentalist organization the Duggars have long been associated with, The Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP).
Jim Bob and Michelle's daughter Jill Duggard and her husband Derick Dillard both make appearances in the series, as well as Jim Bob's sister Deanna Jordan, niece Amy Duggar and her husband Dillon King.
Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets is now streaming on Prime Video.
