Jessica Biel's Workout Routine Is The Perfect Balance Of Badass And Bliss
Millennials probably remember Jessica Biel as the basketball-loving, athlete, Mary, on 7th Heaven, and though her character on the show was completely fictional, in real life Jessica has always been a fan of staying active, which is probably why her workout routine includes a ton of different training techniques, from yoga to plyometrics.
As a kid Jessica was into gymnastics and as a teen she played club soccer. Later on, she even gave dance training a shot. Jessica has credited playing sports as one of the reasons she's so comfortable with her body as an actress. "I'm aware of how my muscles feel, what it feels like when anything changes. Playing sports and being physical helps me maintain that sort of relationship with my own body. So when I'm doing something, or performing in a physical role, I understand that," Jessica told ESPN.
Today, you might find Jessica working on perfecting her handstand, doing squat variations with the help of her trainer, or hiking through the Hollywood hills with her husband (ahem, Justin Timberlake) and that's when she's not busy being a mom to her two kiddos or shooting scenes for a new project. The one thing you probably won't ever catch her doing is staying still.
If you want to catch Jessica in action, all you need to do is take a scroll down her Instagram feed. Here's what we've learned about Jessica Biel's workout routine and go-to exercise moves.
1) Jessica goes all in every single workout.
Not even a super tough workout or a trainer who counts through reps really slowly can keep her down, and here's the proof. Even Jessica's trainer, Ben Bruno, is highly impressed by her commitment to finishing strong. "Wanna see something crazy? @jessicabiel does skater squats with 8 second eccentrics for sets of 6 reps. This is just nuts," Bruno wrote on his own IG. "This isn’t something we did one time for the video either; this was her third set and I have her do these routinely. It’s really a wonder she hasn’t fired me yet."
2) She's all about balance.
Here's Jessica flawlessly showing us that you can have your cake and eat it too...while getting some lunges in. Talk about multitasking. This video clip is from the set of her upcoming series, Cruel Summer. She was able to sneak in a little exercise in between filming takes. Sweat snacks FTW!
3) She's been a yogi for years.
In 2018, she told the Gaiam she actually has been practicing yoga for over a decade. "I started getting into yoga about 10 years ago through a close friend who was an instructor. At first I felt like, ‘I can’t do all those crazy poses,’ and I still can’t, but I’m not competing with anyone. I want to demystify yoga and bring it out to more women and men in the community, where it doesn’t have to be intimidating."
4) She's makes workout "dates."
Whether it's help from a trainer or her husband JT, Jessica knows the value of a good workout buddy. Here's Justin helping Jessica achieve a handstand. Both of them have previously revealed that they are actually huge fans of gym dates.
5) Jessica likes moves that challenge her total bod.
Jessica focuses on targeting all her muscle groups with compound exercises like a pistol squat, which works out the core, legs, and glutes and strengthens stabilizing muscles like your hamstrings. Here Jessica cranks out a few in combination with dumbbell arm raises to target her upper body too.
6) She likes to take a hike.
Jessica loves taking her workouts outside. She's known to go on hikes in the hills of Los Angeles, but if you really want to be impressed. In 2010, she went on an 8-day hike and climbed up to the top of the 19,340 ft-tall Mount Kilimanjaro as a part of a project to raise awareness of the global water crisis.
