Jennifer Garner just dropped the best skincare advice she’s ever received—and it’s from her mom, of course.
“She said to me forever ago, ‘Jennifer, you better take care of your neck,’” the Yes Day actress recalled. “Ladies, you heard it here first.”
Elsewhere, the 49-year-old also shouted out her favorite retinol serum: Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Retinol Pro+.5% Power Serum.
Jennifer Garner is one of Hollywood’s most trusted skincare gurus. At 49, the 13 Going on 30 actress still has the same flawless, glowing complexion that she had decades ago—and one of her most trusted secrets to great skin comes from her own mother.
In a new interview with Byrdie, Garner opened up about the advice from her mom that’ll always stick with her. “She said to me forever ago, ‘Jennifer, you better take care of your neck,’” the actress recalled, mimicking a Southern accent. “It’s all from my mom.”
Garner’s mother apparently keeps her skincare routine super-simple—“I’ve seen my mom in makeup, like, a couple times in my life,” she said—meaning her tips are both infrequent and very helpful. “Definitely, if my mom says it, then you really have to do it. You’re not gonna get a ton of skincare advice from her,” Garner continued.
“So, yeah, ladies, you heard it here first: Pat Garner says take care of your neck,” she said. “There you go.”
Now that she’s approaching 50, the Yes Day actress has been taking that advice even more seriously in recent years. “Now, I just am more careful about my neck. I’m more careful about my eyes,” she revealed. “I’m more likely to take the time to take care of those parts of my skin ... and my hands. That’s the other thing, just being a little more careful about my hands.”
Another huge part of her skincare routine is Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Retinol Pro+ 0.5% Power Serum, which she’s raved about extensively for its smoothing, brightening, anti-aging power. (Full disclosure: Garner is a paid spokesperson for Neutrogena.)
“It’s the mack daddy. It is no joke,” she said of the $30 serum, which has replaced both “prestige products” and a much more expensive option initially recommended by her dermatologist. “They were like, ‘You know what, you can get the same thing at the drugstore if you get Neutrogena.’”
“Skin is the most important to me,” Garner continued. “I’m not a makeup person. And so what I do love is just that fresh, right-out-of-the-shower, new skin. And in order for that to work, especially as you get a little bit more wisdom under your belt, you have to just take care of it. That’s really what it’s about.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
