In searching for the perfect vitamin C serum, as in searching for a partner, I’ve been burned, woefully underwhelmed, and irrevocably turned off by small things—like scent. In the past year, however, I’ve realized I needn’t settle for anything less than perfect: The Vital C Anti-Aging Serum from Image Skincare exists—and, unlike the person I’ve (finally) settled on, there’s plenty to go around. Better yet, the serum is on sale, exclusively for InStyle readers, during the limited-time InSider Sale, happening now. Use the code INSTYLE at checkout to score 20 percent off your purchase until April 27.
A best-seller for the clinical-grade skincare brand, the serum is a go-to for celebrities like Jennifer Coolidge, who has relied on the formula prior to red carpet appearances. (FWIW: Megan Fox and Hailey Bieber have also used products from the brand.)
The Vital C Anti-Aging Serum is a smoothing, brightening elixir that enhances dull, dry skin both instantly and over time. True to its name, it stars vitamin C, the tone-evening, complexion-illuminating superstar of the skin care world—in not one, but four forms—to deliver a supercharged glow.
If you’re familiar with vitamin C, perhaps you’ve heard it’s highly unstable—meaning it can easily degrade (and become less effective) when exposed to light and air. Image’s serum, however, is housed in an opaque, air-tight tube, which mitigates these issues. As for the specific forms of vitamin C, the serum contains tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, “a highly stable form” of vitamin C that delivers an ultra-bright glow, dermatologist Dr. Adrienne O'Connell, M.D., Medical Director of Laguna Beach Aesthetics, previously told InStyle. Ascorbic acid, which is perhaps the most well-known and scientifically backed form of vitamin C, is also present, as is magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, a lesser-known yet worthy skin-brightener. Ascorbyl palmitate, yet another derivative, completes this blend of skin brighteners.
Additionally, the formula contains hydrating ingredients. For instance, hyaluronic acid—a humectant, draws moisture from the surrounding air and into skin, where it deeply moisturizes, plumps fine lines, and imparts a dewy, radiant glow. Glycerin, yet another humectant that retains moisture in the skin, is also present.
I’m partial to the serum’s texture, which stands apart from that of vitamin C serums I’ve tried in the past. Whereas most are watery—and, frankly, feel sticky on the skin—Image’s lightweight cream is texturally akin to a milky, featherlight face cream. I’d be remiss to skip over the zesty citrus scent, courtesy of orange peel, which enlivens sleepy mornings.
After incorporating the formula into my routine, I’m unsurprised that it’s a go-to for celebrity skin prep: The instant, hydrated glow is notable in and of itself, as is the more even-toned complexion it creates in mere weeks. Plus, it layers beautifully beneath makeup, sans pilling, and absorbs in seconds.
For a celebrity-worthy glow and an end to your search for the perfect vitamin C serum, snag the Vital C Anti-Aging Serum from Image Skincare while it’s on sale for InStyle readers. Don’t forget to use the code INSTYLE at checkout for 20 percent off your order. Hurry—you have until April 27 until products return to full price.
