Jenna Ortega Shows Gratitude for Historic Emmy Nomination on Instagram
Congrats are in order for Hollywood's latest it girl, Jenna Ortega. The 20-year-old's breakout role in Tim Burton's Netflix series, Wednesday, has earned her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, making her the second youngest actress to ever be nominated in the esteemed category. She's three years older than Patty Duke was when she was nominated for The Patty Duke Show in 1964.
In light of the news, Jenna took to Instagram to congratulate her fellow nominees and the cast and crew of Wednesday. Alongside an adorable pic of her and Gwendoline Christie on set, the actress wrote, "What wonderful news to hear the Wednesday team has received twelve Emmy nominations. I’ve been so fortunate to witness first hand the incredible time/effort being put in by our cast, crew, writers, and directors, and feel so excited to be able to share this with them. @televisionacad, thank you for the honor, it’s a pleasure."
The full list of nominees for the 75th annual Emmy Awards were revealed by Yvette Nicole Brown and Academy Chair Frank Scherma on July 12, per Entertainment Tonight. The Addams Family spin-off series first premiered in November 2022 and has since been renewed for a second season after Jenna became a sensation thanks to her portrayal of Gomez and Morticia's iconic daughter, Wednesday.
The Netflix series racked up a total of 12 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series. Tim Burton, who has helmed pop culture classics like Beetlejuice and The Nightmare Before Christmas, also earned his first-ever Emmy nomination in the Directing for a Comedy Series category.
Jenna's category is stacked with talented actresses from some of television's best projects, including Abbott Elementary and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The Wednesday star is nominated alongside Christina Applegate (Dead To Me), Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), and Natasha Lyonne (Poker Face).
