Jay-Z's Dreamy Los Angeles Office, Designed by Willo Perron, Is Nothing Short of Serene
When you think of the hustle and bustle, and constant grind of Los Angeles, "serene" is probably the last word to come to mind. But with help from designer Willo Perron, entertainment mogul Jay-Z has created a space at his Los Angeles-based Roc Nation office that is the epitome of zen.
“I didn’t want it to feel like a caricatured media or management office, with music blaring and video screens everywhere. I wasn’t interested in that kind of sensory over-load,” Willo Perron said while speaking with Architectural Digest. “I wanted to do the opposite, to create a zen environment conducive to ideas and conversation, a space where you can actually think.”
How exactly did Perron create the tranquil digs? With plenty of muted concrete, chunky marble and other neutral nods, of course. Jay-Z's personal office in particular boasts a Charlotte Perriand desk, a Marcel Breuer lamp, a Gio Ponti mirror and seating by Oscar Niemeyer, Erberto Carboni, and Afra and Tobia Scarpa.
Although Jay-Z is the owner of at least one Jean-Michel Basquiat piece, and boasts an art collection that could rival that of a small museum, Perron revealed that they opted for works from emerging artists for the L.A. space.
“We wanted something less predictable,” the designer explained. “This felt more experimental and more appropriate for L.A. It’s all about the vanguard of culture.”
