Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith Feel It Was The "Best Move" to Publicize Their Marital Issues
Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith are reportedly happy they've detangled themselves from the August Alsina drama. A source told Us Weekly that the couple believes candidly speaking about their 23-year marriage during a recent episode of Red Table Talk was "the best move for their family."
During the 12-minute episode, Pinkett Smith admitted to "an entanglement with August" in 2015, following persistent rumors that she dated the musician. She and her husband, who sat across from her at the table, also opened up in an unprecedented way about their split at the time of the Alsina romance. "They are a very vulnerable and open pair," the insider told Us, later adding, "This wouldn't even be a story if they weren't famous — it's a normal situation — break up, get back together."
There’s some healing that needs to happen…so I’m bringing myself to The Red Table.

The Smiths clarified that the relationship happened during a brief break from their marriage more than four years ago. "And it all started with him just needing some help. Me wanting to help his health, his mental state," Pinkett Smith explained. "From there you and I were going through a difficult time. We basically...we broke up." In the end, the actress said, "Through that particular journey I learned so much about myself and was able to really confront a lot of emotional immaturity, emotional insecurity, and I was really able to do some really deep healing."
An insider for the family said to Us Weekly, "Jada and Will have always been open about the fact that they have a true partnership and are united in life and love forever," continuing, "They didn’t want to let this ordeal drag on any further and they decided to go on Red Table Talk to address it once and for all before it got messier and dragged on into a bigger story with more white lies."
Addressing the drama turned out to not only be the right choice personally, but also a savvy business move for the pair. Deadline reported that last Friday's episode of Red Table Talk attracted more than 15 million views in 24 hours. It broke the record for the most watched Facebook Watch episode, besting Pinkett Smith's Red Table Talk with Jordyn Woods.
"It's really frustrating to the whole family that their personal life is blasted out into the open, but they’re used to it," the source told the outlet. "But when you look at the facts, Will and Jada’s situation is something that any normal couple could go through. Couples go through things, really hard things, but when it’s true love, they reconcile and come out of it stronger."
