A’Ja Wilson Hooked Up Dawn Staley With a Never-Before Seen Version of Her Forthcoming Sneaker
South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley is well known for her sneaker game, and it appears to be getting even better now that one of her former players has a signature shoe deal.
A’ja Wilson, who played for Staley and the Gamecocks for all four years of college, hooked up her old sneaker with the previously unseen Nike A’One “Black Label.” Nike had already revealed the “Black Label” collection, which is releasing over NBA All-Star Weekend with the number of shoes made corresponding to each signature athlete’s birth year, but never indicated Wilson’s forthcoming model would be a part of it.

Through three different Instagram posts compiling 14 photos Tuesday night, Staley took her followers through the details of the predominantly black colorway, including the midsole’s anodized gradient TPU bezel, satin laces with black pearl-like beads and an “A’One of 1” label beneath the Swoosh. Wilson herself even commented on one of the posts pointing out that Staley had missed the lining with a special pattern using the Swoosh and Wilson’s logo, so Staley made sure to post once again in order to highlight her omission.
Nike revealed Wilson’s long-anticipated A’One sneaker last week, and it won’t release until May. It makes use of a full-length Cushlon ST2 foam midsole surrounded by a more stiff and supportive carrier. It’s also loaded with personalized details for Wilson even before the new aspects created by the “Black Label” edition.
It’s not yet clear if the Nike A’One “Black Label” will release to the public, and if it does you can expect just 1,996 pairs to be made a launch date later than that of the rest of the collection on Friday, February 14.
