What's It Made Of?
The Coop Home Goods Eden Pillow comprises three layers: an outer cover made of polyester and bamboo-derived viscose rayon, an inner liner made of polyester, and shredded memory-foam fill that's made of viscoelastic polyurethane and polyester fibers. It's an adjustable pillow, meaning that the sleeper can remove or add filling to their liking — it's even bundled with an extra half-pound bag of fill if they need to puff it up even more.
This pillow is the second bed pillow launched from Coop Home Goods, which became internet-famous for its Original Pillow ($59.99), racking up over 30,000 Amazon reviews to date. The Eden pillow is actually very similar in construction to its predecessor, apart from the Eden's addition of polyester fibers in the fill, which makes the pillow's texture noticeably more down-like than foam-like. This addition also accounts for the Eden's slightly higher price point.
This pillow is completely machine-washable (even if the memory-foam fill takes time to dry), it's cruelty-free, American-made, and comes with a 100-night sleep trial along with a 5-year warranty. The memory-foam fill also meets third-party CertiPUR-US and GREENGUARD Gold certification standards, ensuring that the material is safer for the environment and for your home's atmosphere.
Why I Love It
As far as I'm concerned, the Eden is pretty much the ideal pillow: It's plump, soft, and squishy with just the right amount of give. When I'm asked for pillow recommendations, I usually drop its name. Unless you love a very solid, firm pillow, this one is a great match for just about anyone. It's pretty uncontroversial.
The main reason that I say this is because the loft of the pillow is adjustable. So, sleepers of any size or sleep position can unzip both the outer and inner liners to take out or re-fluff the fill as needed. And while you're in there, if you sink your hand deep into the pillow's foam-and-fiber stuffing, you'll feel how noticeably cool it is. The confetti-sized memory foam bits are infused with cooling gel (which looks like small blue flecks) to help offset memory foam's natural tendency to retain heat. These material features, plus the addition of the polyester fibers, give the pillow a uniquely airy feel, making the overall weight pleasantly light, though not exactly featherweight.
These polyester fibers are usually found in down-alternative pillows, giving them that jet-puffed responsiveness and airy feel. In this pillow, the fibers fulfill this same need and they act as a binding agent with the foam to keep it clustered together. This shredded memory-foam pillow without the fibers (aka The Original) would be just as responsive and supportive, but would probably tend to get lumpy, causing users to have to wrestle with their pillow to get it to their desired loft level.
The cushy foam/fiber fill is a perfect complement to the outer layer of the pillow, which is an incredibly soft blend of polyester and rayon viscose. It has that amazing “favorite soft T-shirt” feel. This layer does feel cool to the touch, though after hours of sleeping on it, it does tend to retain a little bit of heat. I also like the plump shape of this pillow, as it fills out a pillowcase without any issue and the outer-case material isn't slippery like other cooling pillow materials can be.
The pillow comes with an extra bag of stuffing, which does seem an unnecessary add-on. Unless you have very broad shoulders or you need a pillow to support you for sitting upright in bed, taking out the stuffing would be advisable. I find that I do need to take out a handful of it to maintain a more comfortable loft for side-sleeping.
The Final Word
The Coop Home Goods Eden Pillow is an all-around great bed pillow. It provides just enough pushback to be supportive, while also being incredibly soft and squishy. The pillow supports all positions, even spooning, and meets all of my comfort criteria.
