Instead of Painting a Dark Room White, Orlando Soria Suggests a "Sultry, Saturated Color"
When it comes to decorating your space, there are times when your instinct tends to lead the way. Often times, the end result is immaculate. Other times, following your instinct can lead to design despair. Interior designer Orlando Soria recently shared one interior design instinct that is capable of turning your space drab. That instinct is to paint a dark room white or another very light color.
"Hot Tip! Sometimes instinct tells you to paint a dark room white to make it look brighter. THAT INSTINCT IS WRONG!!! (Swipe to see why). Painting a dark, sexy space white makes it look dingy and depressing," Soria wrote in his Instagram caption.
For those who may have considered brightening up a dark space with a swatch of white, Soria offered a few other options.
"LEAN IN and paint it a sultry, saturated color (pictured here: @farrowandball “Hague Blue”). This will give your space an intentionally romantic vibe. Brighten it up with pops of ivory, warm woods, woven textures, and soothing neutrals," he continued.
It was just last year when Soria made his return to HGTV with his new show, Build Me Up! With his latest HGTV series, the interior designer helps homeowners transition through major life changes by giving them a fresh start through their home's design.
