Inside Kevin Costner's Wife's Decision to File for Divorce
Surprising news came out recently announcing that Christine Baumgartner, the longtime wife of actor Kevin Costner, was filing for divorce.
Now, we have some insight into what led Baumgartner to this decision.
According to a source who spoke with People, Costner's demanding work schedule was a big factor. "Christine wants them to spend family time at their Santa Barbara home," the insider relayed. "During filming, Kevin is not around very much. His absence has been very hard for her."
"Christine doesn't want him to throw himself into another project. He has been obsessed with filming Horizon since last year. She wasn't happy about it," they went on.
The source also stated that Costner "knew" his wife was "unhappy," but despite that, the decision to file for divorce came as an "unpleasant surprise."

Costner has experienced a lot of increased success in the past few years due to the popularity of his show Yellowstone, and his next project Horizon is an additional big undertaking.
People further reported the source as saying, "Kevin hasn't been home very much for quite some time due to filming, the popularity of Yellowstone, and the time necessary for his other projects. He has been in demand."
"All of this success and excitement over the new project probably took his attention away from his family more than he realized," the source continued. "Since it didn't look like that would change and likely could get worse, it caused tension at home."
Costner and Baumgartner, who married in 2004, share three children, including Cayden, 16, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 12.
When news of the divorce filing first came out, Costner's rep shared the statement: "It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action."
Although the two issues are reportedly not related, around the same time, it was also revealed that Costner would not be returning to his hit series, Yellowstone, after the conclusion of season five.
