Take These Incredible Virtual Hikes Guided by Park Rangers in Honor of National Park Week

This year, from April 18th to the 26th it's National Park Week. As we all remain safely at home in light of the coronavirus pandemic, we're missing the joy of wandering through these natural wonders. But just because we're at home doesn't mean we can't experience some of these magnificent splendors from afar. Yesterday, we were excited to learn about the website g.co/nationalparks, a Google Arts & Culture project developed in collaboration with National Park Service, that brings some of the excitement of national parks to our screens.

As we learned in a recent article on Google's blog The Keyword, there are many ways to take a virtual hike through our country's magnificent national parks. "[The Hidden World of the National Parks project] takes you on guided tours narrated by park rangers from the Kenai Fjords, Hawai'i Volcanoes, Carlsbad Caverns, Bryce Canyon and Dry Tortugas," writes the blog's author Molly McHugh-Johnson. "I can also visit historical sites that I’ve never been to before, like Eleanor Roosevelt’s woodsy home in Hyde Park, New York or Thomas Edison’s camping sites (which, to me, look a little more like glamping). There are more than 100 Street View historical tours to choose from, and collections that let you discover Native American craft work or fossils from archeological digs," McHugh-Johnson continues, giving us several ideas of where we should commence our virtual adventures.

Now, these virtual experiences may not burn as many calories as walking around the real deal, but it's certainly whetting our appetites for the from couch-to-5K-level excursions we'll be having when we can visit America's Best Idea once again.
