Inaugural Deerfield Community Days offers families two days of fun this weekend
DEERFIELD — Coming off its sesquicentennial last year — recognizing 150 years of small-town community and living — Deerfield will usher in a new community event this weekend.
Two days of wholesome family friendly activities throughout the village, starting today on Friday, May 31, and continuing into Saturday, June 1, are lined up to celebrate the Deerfield community, kick off summer in the village and just have fun.
Deerfield Community Days — as they are aptly called — begin with a car show and food trucks at 4:30 p.m. today and conclude Saturday evening with a fireworks display at dusk. In between, there will be games for kids, antique tractor pullers at noon Saturday and plenty of chances for neighbors to get together with one another.
Food trucks — featuring Fat Axe Grill, Mrs. C’s Gourmet Grilled Cheese, and Sunset Ridge BBQ, to name a few — will be present all day Saturday as will be craft vendors. DJ-provided entertainment and music starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Deerfield’s sesquicentennial last year, which celebrated the anniversary of its incorporation in 1873, brought movies, historical programs, a parade, music, a car show, food trucks, athletic tournaments and fireworks to the village for two days of entertainment.
Village President Todd Nighswander, during the sesquicentennial celebration, called Deerfield a great place to grow up and raise a family while noting it is, “close enough to everything but far enough away from everything."
The following weekend in June, June 7 and June 8, Deerfield's annual garage sale weekend returns for another summer. For information about the garage sales, contact the Deerfield Village Hall by calling 517-447-3138.
