Grab your favorite cocktail glass because Ina Garten says it’s finally time to party. After months of holding back on hosting her elaborate gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Barefoot Contessa took to Instagram ahead of the Fourth of July holiday weekend to share her go-to summer sangria recipe.

“After this past year, I like to remind myself that there is still so much to celebrate. My Summer Rosé Sangria is here to help!” she captioned the video. “It’s refreshing and delicious and so easy to make. And all the fruit makes it good for you, right?”

Garten stood in her gorgeous East Hampton home and got to mixing. “I’m making a big pitcher. You never know when people are going to stop by, and this time they’re actually going to stop by” she says.

She began by adding a bottle of rosé wine to her pitcher with a 1/2 cup pomegranate juice and freshly squeezed lemon juice for intense color and a fruity, tart flavor. Then she added superfine sugar (just 1/4 cup) to balance out the tartness, and gave the pitcher a big stir to dissolve all the sugar.

Garten then poured in a few tablespoons of orange liquor (any you have on hand will do), and a splash of brandy (or Cognac would work as well, she notes). She then adds a cup of water to the mixture and exclaims, “It’s pretty easy, right?”

Finally, she adds ice and a mixture fresh raspberries, strawberries, and sliced red plums to the pitcher and gives everything a big stir. She’ll leave it in the fridge for two hours, but suggests that leaving it in the fridge overnight is even better.

Naturally, she already had a pitcher ready to go in the fridge from the day before. Garten pulled out the ruby-red drink and filled a goblet halfway with ice, before pouring the sangria over and using a spoon to grab some of the macerated fruit. “Because the fruit is so good, just spoon some fruit on top. How good does this look? It’s light. It’s refreshing. It’s perfect for the holiday,” she says in the video.
