IKEA Is Launching Smart Window Treatments For Your Smart Hubs
Smart home gadgets are gaining in popularity, and it's not uncommon to see everything from smart light bulbs to Wi-Fi controlled crock-pots flying off of shelves. And of course, everyone's favorite home store IKEA has gotten in on the action too―the Swedish superstore sells items like smart dimmers and motion sensor kits.
Now, IKEA is gearing up for the release of two new products that will make your home even cooler. As Engadget reports, KADRILJ and FYRTUR are battery-powered smart window blinds that can be controlled wirelessly by the remote control that's included with the blinds. You can also control the blinds through the associated app or by a device like Amazon Alexa or Google Home, and you can do cool things like program the blinds to open and close at a certain time. Tech blog Zatz Not Funny also reports that you can set the shades to filter incoming light or prevent outside glare.
The blinds go for about 99 – 155 euros, which converts to $113 – $181. They will be available starting from February 2, but for right now, it seems like the smart shades will only be available in the European market. But if this release follows the pattern of other European releases, the blinds should be available in the U.S. sometime in the spring.
