Ice Spice seems set to follow in the footsteps of her friend, Taylor Swift.
The rapper, 24, has been soaring up the charts the last couple of years, with a little boost that can probably be credited to the pair's remix of "Karma," Swift's hit track from her latest studio album, Midnights. When the two were recording in the studio together, the global superstar gave the rapper a piece of career advice she'll "never forget."
"She told me, 'No matter what, just keep making music and everything’s going to be fine,'" Ice Spice shared during a recent interview with Billboard.
And if there's anyone who's living proof of that piece of advice, it's Swift herself, who is set to release her 11th studio album—not including the four of six rerecorded albums she has already rereleased—in her 18-year career.
Swift, 34, never seems to sleep, jet-setting back and forth between her own concerts and beau Travis Kelce's football games, and expressed how thrilling almost every aspect of her job is during her Album of the Year acceptance speech at the Grammys this year.
“I would love to tell you that this is the best moment of my life, but I feel this happy when I finish a song, or when I crack the code to a bridge that I love, or when I’m shot-listing a music video or when I’m rehearsing with my dancers, or my band, or getting ready to go to Tokyo to play a show," she said. "For me, the award is the work. All I wanna do is keep being able to do this."
But it's not a one-sided relationship with Ice Spice as the two have been spotted hanging out, including at the Super Bowl, and Swift sang the younger artist's praises after their collaboration was released.
"I want to explain how this came out because it felt like karma, or like fate or something," she said at the first of three concerts at Metlife Stadium last summer.
"Basically, at the very beginning of the year when I was just starting to train for this tour—I was fully in it—I got reached out to by Ice Spice. She reached out and she just said, 'You know, if you ever want to collab, I would love to' and what she didn't know at the time was that when I was training for the tour, I was listening to pretty much exclusively her music every single day, all day, getting in the zone to tour because of her."
Swift called her "the entire future," emphasizing her work ethic. "I've never been around someone who is that prepared and curious and focused on what she wants," she concluded. "So I was absolutely blown away."
