Hunter Lawrence Reflects on Tough Weekend at Washougal
In a candid Vital Mx interview with Lewis Phillips following a challenging day at the Washougal National finishing off the podium for the first time this AMA Pro Motocross series, rookie to the 450MX class Hunter Lawrence of Team Honda HRC expressed his frustration and uncertainty about his current form.
"It's tough, mate. It sucks. I am kind of speechless," Lawrence admitted. "I haven't been the same racer since the RedBud crash. We're still working very hard, maybe too much during the week. It's been tough these last two weekends at Millville and here (Washougal). I'm normally one of the strongest guys on the track, but my body just hasn't been there."

Lawrence's struggles have prompted him and his team to re-evaluate their approach. "We're going back to the drawing board. We need to figure out what the real underlying issue is. We want to find out if it's the repercussions of the crash or something else," he said.
Despite the challenges, Lawrence remains committed to finding a solution. "We're trying everything. It's not from a lack of effort. We need to get blood tests and thoroughly check everything, just like we would with the bike's ECU if it wasn't running right," he explained.
Lawrence put things into perspective when asked about the demanding schedule ahead, including the Motocross of Nations, Paris Supercross, and Aus-X Open. "It's our job. There are guys who wake up at 4:30 or 5:00 every morning to do tough manual labor. I ride a dirt bike for a living. I enjoy what I do, and there are plenty of worse scenarios I could be in."
As Lawrence looks to regain his form, his dedication and perspective remain steadfast. As we enter the two-week break before heading to New York for the next round of Pro Motocross, this will give him time to re-evaluate the situation and see if he can return to peak performance in a couple of weeks.
