Hot Picks: Jackie Evancho tops this weekend's nightlife, March 3 to 6
HOT PICK
Friday
Pop: Classical crossover and pop vocalist Jackie Evancho was only 10 years old when she appeared on the fifth season of "America's Got Talent" in 2010, but she blew audiences away with her performances of opera songs such as "O mio babbino caro" and "Ave Maria." She was the runner-up behind singer and songwriter Michael Grimm.
Following "America's Got Talent," Evancho saw success with her 2010 Christmas EP "O Holy Night." It debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, making her the youngest solo artist ever to debut in the top 10, the youngest person to ever have a U.S. Top 3 album and the youngest solo artist ever to go platinum.
At 21, she continues to sing a mixture of classical and pop. Her 2019 album "The Debut" was released through her own label "JE Touring" and topped the Billboard Classical Albums chart. Evancho will perform on Friday at the McCallum Theatre.
Jackie Evancho: 8 p.m. Friday, McCallum Theatre, 73-000 Fred Waring Drive, Palm Desert. $50 to $100. (760) 340-2787. mccallumtheatre.com

The band has recorded four albums and the East Bay Soul horn section performed the National Anthem at Levi Stadium for San Francisco 49ers fans last October. They'll perform on Thursday at Agua Caliente Casino in Palm Springs.

Rock: Wolfgang Van Halen told The Desert Sun earlier this month the mission statement of the Young Guns tour featuring his band Mammoth WVH and rock group Dirty Honey is to "prove the people saying rock is dead are 'little baby men who are wrong.'"
The tour comes to Fantasy Springs Resort Casino on Saturday, providing local rock fans with an opportunity to see two new high-energy rock bands.
Mammoth WVH and Dirty Honey: 8 p.m. Saturday, Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, 84-245 Indio Springs Parkway, Indio. $29 to $49. (760) 342-5000. fantasyspringsresort.com
Punk: Los Angeles' punk scene has several legendary bands such as Black Flag, T.S.O.L. Fear and The Angry Samoans. They wrote a controversial song about KROQ DJ Rodney Bingenheimer called "Get Off The Air," which got them banned from some Los Angeles venues due to Bingenheimer's influence.
The band continues to perform, but drummer Bill Vockeroth also tours under the moniker of Angry Samoan and will perform Saturday at The Hood Bar and Pizza with VFMS, No Consent, Grave Misfortunes and Square Wave Monolith.
Angry Samoan: 8 p.m. Saturday, The Hood Bar and Pizza, 74-360 Highway 111, Palm Desert. $15. (760) 636-5220.
