Homeowning 101: Now You Can Buy a Tiny House on Amazon
Riddle: What do corduroy, TV-star table decor and tiny homes have in common? Answer: They’re all trending hard, and can be bought from the comfort of your underwear.
That’s right: You no longer have to pine over all those HGTV episodes, because you can now order your very own tiny home off Amazon.
MODS International is making 360-square-foot homes out of brand-new steel shipping containers, to the tune of $36,000. The structures come with windows, French doors, a bathroom and a kitchen with appliances. All you need is a slab to park your home on, plus hookups for utilities, and you’re living the dream. Except smaller.
While the Wisconsin-based makers specialize in designing elaborate custom homes, the business is equally committed to its low-price option. The tiny shipping-container homes were CEO Douglas Larson’s brainstorm when, during his team’s post-Katrina rebuilding trip, he realized how important prefab structures can be, due to their fast installation, safety and economy.
Thanks to MODS International—and Amazon—we have a feeling that tiny is going to be huge.
