Home offering 'luxury Italian living' listed for $4.95 million in this Bergen County town
North Jersey is known for having luxury homes inspired by styles all over the world, so it seems fitting that one of the most luxurious Italian-style estates currently on the market is located right here in Bergen County.
Boasting more than 15,000-square-feet on 2.5 acres along the Hackensack River, the property at 1500 River Road in Teaneck is listed for $4.95 million. The home was designed 10 years ago by renowned Morristown-based architect James Paragano, who specializes in luxury residential projects that are connected to architectural history, but with a modern flair.
"You see some old mansions and estates around Bergen County, but there's nothing out there like this," said listing agent Aharon "Ron" Cohen of Keller Williams Park Views Realty. "Everything in it was done to create this style of luxury Italian living."
In addition to its 12 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms, the home features several different living areas, an expansive kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances, a spacious home office and amenities like private basketball courts both indoors and outdoors, a home gym and an elevator.
In terms of the property's unique design, Cohen said many of the materials used throughout the space were imported from Portugal and Italy. And during the building process, he said Italian artists lived in the home while they handmade some of its features, including the grand fireplace.
There is also stone and tile flooring used throughout the home, inspired by the look of Italian streets. The home's atrium, which doubles as a more formal seating area, also features 35-foot tall ceilings and faux balconies so the space can be overlooked from the second floor.
"You feel like you have an audience. You can speak to anyone around the home, it doesn't matter which room they're in," Cohen said. "That's why everything was created around this atrium. It was meant to be a connection between the main areas on the first floor to the second floor."
While the estate currently does not have any outdoor amenities, Cohen said there are renderings available based on plans created by Haskell-based Tapestry Landscape Architecture at the time the home was designed. These plans include a pool, several seating areas and an outdoor kitchen or bar.
"I think once you have the outdoor space in the back, like a pool and outdoor kitchen, this place would be the perfect resort," he said. "And for people who like to entertain, this is the perfect package. There's nothing else that exists like this within this price range and this close to New York City."
