This 'Home Alone'-Inspired Airbnb Is the Perfect '90s Holiday Getaway
It's been 30 years since the iconic holiday classic Home Alone was released. The film follows eight-year-old Kevin McCallister as he wakes up to an empty house after his family had forgotten him as they left for vacation. Little does McCallister know that he’d soon have company in his Chicago home as burglars Harry and Marv had plans to ransack it.
Now if you ever find yourself in the windy city, you can actually swing by the McCallister family home and admire it from afar. But as you may already know, that house was only used for exterior shots, and the interiors of the home seen in the film were actually shot on a set that was built inside a high school gym. Wild, right?
Fortunately, you can still have the ultimate Kevin McCallister experience thanks to Airbnb — although, you’ll have to make your way to Dallas.
Airbnb hosts Jeremy and Kelsey are the masterminds behind "The Kevin - Holiday Classic + Cheese PIZZA & Traps" listing available on the rental platform. Sure, that title might not sound like your typical getaway, but that's because you’re not only getting a place to stay, but a totally ‘90s experience inspired by the movie.
Enter this private duplex unit and you’ll immediately be placed inside the tiny shoes of an eight-year-old pulling out all the stops to foil the plans of the local robbers. Paint cans hang from the ceiling, tiny toy cars scatter the floor (keep your eyes peeled!), and a Michael Jordan cardboard cutout and mannequins decorate the space, giving you everything you need to protect yourself if trouble comes your way.
You’ll also be treated to some special '90s novelties. Think: holiday VHS tapes, a ping pong table, fancy glasses guaranteed to give you a milk mustache, and more. Most importantly, a delicious cheese pizza will be delivered straight to your doorstep, courtesy of the hosts.
Although Kevin McCallister was home alone, it doesn’t mean you’ll have to travel solo. The rental can accommodate up to six guests (four beds). Prices per night start in the low $300s, which divided among your crew, comes out to around $50 a night and some change. With only 5-star ratings from guests, you can’t go wrong. As one guest wrote in the reviews:
"I’m happy to say that our stay was everything I hoped it would be! The thoughts and details that went into planning this themed getaway are top notch and I cannot believe some of the memorabilia in this place!"
