Hoda Kotb Shares Intense Morning Routine That Makes Her 'Feel Good'
Hoda Kotb
Hoda Kotb doesn't mess around when it comes to her everyday morning routine.
The Today show anchor, 59, recently shared the steps she religiously follows to start her day off on the right foot—and now we can definitely understand why she is always so bright-eyed and bushy-tailed while gracing our TV screens every morning.
While chatting with bestselling author Chip Conley during a new episode of her Making Space podcast, Kotb shared the important habits she practices every morning in order to get some peace into her day, including a daily meditation session.
"I do 20 minutes of meditation, and I do some writing in my journal," Kotb shared after revealing that she wakes up an hour earlier than she needs to in order to make time for her mindfulness practice.
"And I do [a spirit] check. Like, 'What does my spirit need today? What does my body need today?'"
Figuring out what her body and spirit need can be different each day, as Kotb explained. "Sometimes, I need a manicure. Sometimes, I need to walk in nature. Sometimes, I need a break. Sometimes, I need a hot bath."
"I’ll write down whatever [I need] in that moment," she added.
Also, Kotb makes a serious effort not to look at her phone as soon as she rises—giving herself "a minute" to wake up before jumping into the chaos of the day's events.
"I don’t check my phone or the news of the day or who won what—even sports—nothing until I’m done," she said. "Because I just feel like you can open a gateway and the world comes rushing. It’s like, 'I’m not ready yet. I need a minute.'"
And it's clear that Kotb's work pays off, as she appears with a bright smile every weekday on Today, chatting about the news and making everyone's day a little brighter when they tune in to the show.
New episodes of Kotb's Making Space podcast are available every Wednesday.
