High-end Entrada opens in south Scottsdale
May 30—For good reason, North Scottsdale has received plenty of attention over the last year.
The Parque, One Scottsdale, Optima McDowell Mountain and a proposed Axon live-work development are just a few of the apartment/condo complexes rushing the area north of Cactus Road.
But don't forget the other end of the city.
South Scottsdale also has had some significant developments, including the Miller and McDowell Townhomes and Pickle and Pour Bar.
And now, at the southernmost tip of the city: Scottsdale Entrada.
This isn't just an apartment complex, Santa Monica-based owners say.
Banyan Residential trumpets Entrada as "the new standard."
While that is open to argument, it seems likely Entrada will rival the "hipster apartments" of downtown Phoenix and Tempe — where, not coincidentally, Banyan also has apartment complexes.
According to the Entrada website, "At the intersection of Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Tempe, discover Scottsdale Entrada, where a luxury residential experience awaits you."
A grand opening was held last week, with Mayor David Ortega rolling out the red carpet for the complex of four-story apartment buildings.
In 2020, thenMayor Jim Lane and City Council approved the 735-unit complex, which includes 250,000 square feet of office space and 5,700 square feet of retail space on 24 acres at 64th Street and McDowell Road.
Phoenix is over on the south side of McDowell Road, with Tempe to the east. Papago Sports Complex and Desert Botanical Garden are Entrada neighbors to the west.
Entrada — Spanish for "entry" — is "a key entry point to the city of Scottsdale," according to the developer's pitch to the city a few years ago.
Entrada's list of "amenities" suggests luxury living for young folks who like to work hard and play harder:
—Rooftop deck with bar and fireside lounge;
—Resort-style pool with outdoor kitchen;
—Game room with bar;
—Weightroom + TRX training room;
—Co-working/Maker's Space — lounge, conference Room and pods with open workstations;
—Coffee bar;
—Private dining room;
—Zen/yoga studio;
—Social lounge;
—Mail lounge with package acceptance lockers
And, of course, a dog park.
A hotel was originally planned as part of the package. But, according to the plan approved by the Development Review Board in 2020, the developer decided there were already plenty of hotels in the area.
Airbnb/VRBO-ing is another story.
"Some of the residential units may be placed in a short-term rental pool," the development plan stated.
According to the Entrada website, studios rent for $1,500+ per month, with one bedrooms starting at $2,290, two bedrooms renting for $2,655 plus and three bedrooms starting at $3,610 monthly — with "up to five weeks free" move-in specials.
