Here's Jacques Torres Going On So Very Sweetly About How Much He Loves Nicole Byer

We originally caught Jacques on the phone late last month while he was in France to discuss his weight loss journey and his relationship with chocolate, but in the process, we managed to squeeze in a few questions about his Nailed It! co-star (and Delish fave) Nicole Byer in celebration of their forthcoming new season.
What he had to say on those subjects was irrelevant to the original story, but it was so lovely we wanted to publish it anyway. And while we're sure Nicole would say the same things about Jacques, she's a busy gal, so we'll soak up this one-sided sweetness for now and assume the feeling is mutual. Anyway, here is Jacques on his beloved pal and the show they so wonderfully helm.
Nailed It! has an interesting message, that not everything in life is going to be perfect. If you look at the show, [everything] the bakers are doing is never really perfect. They are not bakers. They are not professional. But they are very strong. In a lot of ways, the show has a good feeling. We’ve never made anyone cry. We give real advice. We laugh with the bakers. We keep it light, and I like that because I don’t like intimidation. The goal is to try and to have fun. Nobody gives up. Everybody finishes. Everybody goes home happy.
I work with someone who has so much talent, Nicole Byer. Nicole is a treasure. She’s a professional comedian. Sometimes I struggle with the teleprompter or the line, but if Nicole is there, she will always [help] recover the situation. She will have a little line on the side to recover. She always has my back.
The other thing is she is a comedian for adults, so she will make jokes all day for adults. If you see the show, it’s also for kids. We always have the producer in our ear saying "Nicole, can you rephrase that?" But that’s exactly who she is—she makes jokes all day. She does it to make people laugh. She is a great friend and I love to work with her.
We are completely opposites in a way. Nicole is not someone who is into baking or who knows food the way I know food. But I think opposites attract and that's pretty much going on with Nicole. She is a lot of fun. She's very smart and is a pleasure to work with.
