Here's When Every New House Of The Dragon Episode Drops

From 2011 to 2019, Game of Thrones was appointment viewing for fans on Sunday nights. For eight seasons, millions tuned into to watch Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Ceresi Lannister, and more larger-than-life characters. It was an expansive fantasy world based on George R.R. Martin's books, and it dominated the pop culture discourse.

Now, House of the Dragon is hoping to recapture that magic—and erase any hard feelings about how Game of Thrones ended. The spin-off series is a prequel to the events of Thrones, taking place two centuries earlier, during the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. The heart of the show will follow the friendship (and falling out) between Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (first Milly Alcock, then Emma D'Arcy) and Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey as a younger Alicent, then Olivia Cooke), the daughter of the hand of the king.

The politics, however, will be all about who succeeds King Viserys I (Paddy Considine) on the Iron Throne.

Mid-way through the season, the show jumps ten years—transitioning from the younger versions of the characters to the older ones. "This is how you tell this story correctly," one of the showrunners, Ryan Condal, explained. "We’re telling a story of a generational war. We set everything up so by the time that first sword stroke falls, you understand all the players."

  • Episode 7: Sunday, October 2

  • Episode 8: Sunday, October 9

  • Episode 9: Sunday, October 16

  • Episode 10 (season finale): Sunday, October 23

All episodes will air on HBO and HBO Max at 9 p.m. Eastern.
