Helena Bonham Carter Could Play Princess Margaret
After months of speculation, Netflix has finally confirmed the news that Helena Bonham Carter will play Princess Margaret in The Crown. Rumors that the actress was in talks to play the Queen's younger sister in the next season of the Netflix series started back in January, and were only fueled by Vanessa Kirby's Instagram post with Bonham Carter, simply captioned "honoured."

Kirby expertly played the role in seasons one and two, which are both currently available to stream on Netflix, but for season three creator Peter Morgan has chosen to entirely recast the show. It was previously announced that Broadchurch actress Olivia Colman will play the Queen, taking the reins (or reigns, rather) from Claire Foy, and Outlander star Tobias Menzies will play Prince Philip. In addition to the Princess Margaret announcement, Netflix also shared that Jason Watkins will play Prime Minister Harold Wilson.

Bonham Carter is perfect to portray the end of Margaret's tempestuous relationship with husband Antony Armstrong-Jones, which is already a confirmed plot point in season three.
Plus, she has experience playing a member of the British royal family. The star, perhaps best known for her roles in the Harry Potter films and Howard's End, also once played Lady Jane Grey, the Nine Days Queen, who served from July 10 through July 19, 1553, until she was executed by Mary Tudor. The 1986 film, Lady Jane, is worth a watch, if only for her fabulous eyebrows. She also portrayed Princess Margaret's mother, the Queen Mother, in The King's Speech.
