Harry and Meghan Already Broke This Instagram Record (in Less Than 6 Hours, No Less)
Eggs aren’t the only ones who can break Instagram records, it turns out.
After launching their own official Instagram account yesterday, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have already gained more than 2 million followers (!). What’s more, they did it in lighting speed, reaching the milestone of 1 million after just five hours and 45 minutes, reports the BBC. According to Guinness World Records, that puts them in front of Korean pop star Kang Daniel as the fastest people (er, account) to gain 1 million followers. (FYI, he hit the mark in 11 hours and 36 minutes. Chump change, right?) Before that, it was Pope Francis—natch.
The official account, which bears the handle @sussexroyal, will be used by the duke and duchess to “[share] the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues.” That’s according to the caption of their first post, a collection of photos depicting the couple in various royal engagements.
Aside from breaking social media records, the new account also marks a departure from Prince Harry and Kate Middleton, with whom they shared the @kensingtonroyal account. As Harry and Meghan begin to forge their own path, we expect we’ll get to see more personal and behind-the-scenes looks through the @sussexroyal account. (Not that we won’t still stalk @kensingtonroyal.)
How many followers do we think they’ll amass before Meghan has her baby? Taking bets now.
