Hari Nef Spreads Her Wings, Joins Love as a Contributing Editor
WILD ABOUT HARI: Hari Nef, the 24-year-old American actress, model and writer, has joined Love as a contributing editor, and the first issue to reflect her efforts will be Love 19, which lands on newsstands in February.
An announcement is expected today.
Nef is the first transgender model to have been signed by a major global agency and is the face of Gucci Bloom. Love editor in chief Katie Grand said she appreciates Nef’s “outspoken wit” on Twitter and called her the voice of a generation.
“Hari and I met when she applied for #CastMeMarc (the Marc Jacobs open casting call) and I was knocked sideways by her eloquence, spark and charm,” said Grand.
“Our universes have been circling for several years now, and when I e-mailed her about working with us, she got back to me in about 17 minutes with 20 feature ideas. She’ll be advising across all content and coming up with features and doing interviews for the print magazine and the web site.”
Grand said she wanted Nef on board “because of her whole experience, which is completely valuable to us.” Love will be giving Nef a birthday party next weekend in New York to mark the appointment.
Having been nominated for a SAG Award for the documentary “Transparent,” Nef will appear next year in the films “Assassination Nation,” “Mapplethorpe” and the TV series “You.”
Nef said she’s been a Love reader since the first issue, and wanted to get down to work. “My passion is for storytelling, through performance, imagery, or text, and I’m grateful to Katie for such a unique opportunity to indulge it.”
