Happy early Halloween from queen of memes Winona Ryder
It’s fall, so it’s time to break out pumpkin spice everything, but it’s also time to cue the Winona Ryder memes. Thanks to the ’90s icon’s string of roles in creepy movies during her younger years — think Beetlejuice, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and even the dark teen classic Heathers — as well as her turn on Stranger Things, Ryder has become the subject of an internet post that sums up our feelings about transitioning into the spooky season.
The post reads “September 30th vs. October 1st,” over side-by-side snapshots of Ryder as the angelic Kim character in Edward Scissorhands, which can be a little creepy too, when Vincent Price is on the scene — and as the self-proclaimed “strange and unusual” Lydia Deetz in Beetlejuice.
Vanessa Hudgens, an actress known for having an affinity for Halloween that doesn’t fall far behind Heidi Klum’s, reminded us of Ryder’s status as the holiday’s unofficial ambassador this week, which is, ahem, just five weeks away from Halloween.

Of course, Ryder has become a meme favorite ever since she made those funny faces at the Screen Actors Guild Awards back in January. She stood beside her Stranger Things cast members as they accepted the award for the best ensemble in a drama series and spawned memes and GIFs galore. Co-star David Harbour gave the cast’s acceptance speech and explained that the acoustics of the venue were to blame. He continued, “She is just such a porous, expressive woman and actress — I think it just flowed through her like every experience — and I loved it.”
But not as much as the internet.
