'God is a woman': Gwendoline Christie's Emmys looks sends social media into a frenzy
Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie sent social media into a frenzy as she arrived at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards in a Renaissance-inspired gown.
The actress, 40, may not have been quite ready to say goodbye to the world of Westeros as she stepped foot on the purple carpet in a Gucci gown that looked straight out of the hit HBO drama’s costume department.
Christie made headlines earlier this year when it was revealed she submitted herself for an Emmy nomination, and ultimately earned a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama.
“I checked that it wasn’t an inappropriate thing to do, and I was told it wasn’t,” Christie said of her decision. “People submit themselves all the time. I truly never expected it to manifest in a nomination and I don’t think anybody else did either. But I just had to do it for me. And I had to do it as a testament to the character and what I feel she represents.”
While she may not have been top of mind for the Game of Thrones showrunners, Christie’s look has mostly drawn high praise on social media.
The biblical look has already spawned countless memes and tweets from fans including, “God is a woman, and her name is Gwendoline Christie.”
