Bandai Namco Filmworks has announced a new Mobile Suit Gundam VR anime project.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Silver Phantom will be released on the Meta Quest and is an anime VR movie created in collaboration with Atlas V, reports Anime News Network.
"This is not a game, nor is it just a narrative experience - it's an immersive adventure that leverages the best of both worlds," said Atlas V’s Pierre Zandrowicz during a panel at Anime NYC last weekend.
Atlas V works on immersive art and entertainment projects, including punk runaways short Battlescar and Wallace and Gromit: The Grand Getaway VR experience.
Bandai Namco is currently touring the US, handing out free Gunpla kits and selling exclusive models from a cool-looking Gundam trailer. It started at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, where it decked out an F1 car in Gundam decals.
One of Gundam’s most popular anime is making a comeback, with Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans based on the game - due to be shut down early next year - to keep the story alive for fans.
Iron Blooded Orphans isn’t the only Gundam game to have its plug pulled. Earlier this year, Bandai announced that it would shut down hero shooter Gundam Evolution due to a lack of players, despite it being available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
