This gorgeous nonprofit shop supports marginalized women artisans around the globe

Where you spend your money matters. So when a brand sells gorgeous goods and gives back to at-risk communities through meaningful employment and well-rounded support, there’s a lot to love.

The Little Market is a nonprofit fair trade shop that sells ethically-sourced home goods and accessories made by marginalized communities. These underserved populations include refugees, people with disabilities, young mothers, survivors of sex trafficking and those living in poverty.

The Little Market, which sources goods worldwide, focuses on empowering women around the world through fair wages and a safe, supportive workplace. Not only that, but the nonprofit says “cultural maintenance” is a core value of their work, with many products made helping to promote and preserve a community’s historical artisan crafts.

The website reads, “We are committed to upholding the dignity of artisans, celebrating their cultural techniques and traditions, and bringing attention to social justice and human rights issues faced by their communities.”

The brand is also invested in environmental consciousness, selling goods that have a low impact on the planet and the communities that produce them.

Along with providing a platform for marginalized artisans to sell their goods to support their livelihoods and artistic endeavors, The Little Market also seeks to uplift these communities with literacy workshops, business training, counseling and healthcare programs.

“We envision a world in which all women have the opportunity to earn a dignified income and all consumers have the opportunity to purchase ethical products,” the website reads. And the market certainly operates by that ethos.

The Little Market was actually founded by television personality and fashion designer Lauren Conrad and her business partner Hannah Skvarla back in 2013. Since the market’s launch, the nonprofit has ethically purchased 190,418 units of products, generating 864,929 hours of work for underserved communities.
