Glenda Bailey and Peruvian Connection Collaborate to Combine Fashion and Artisanship
What happens when two forces in fashion meet? A collaboration, naturally. Peruvian Connection founder Annie Hurlbut Zander, who has kept her label in business for over 45 years, fell in love with Peru as a nineteen year old anthropology student. Her fascination with the Andean textiles, colors and patterns by descendants of artisans are the inspiration wonderful womenswear brand. For over twenty years, Glenda Bailey stood at the helm of Harper’s Bazaar as an industry visionary. She first came upon Peruvian Connection in a spell of inspiration, on a street corner near her former Columbus Avenue address. What happen's when two forces in fashion meet?
These days Bailey and Zander are weaving together their different backgrounds to create something beautiful; a capsule collection at the intersection of craftsmanship and fashion. This summit marks Bailey’s first venture into the industry and Peruvian Connection’s first time outsourcing design collaboration. “The first time I talked to Glenda, she recognized in us this sort of sandbox of things that could be built with all of this potential,” says Hurlbut Zander. “She understood instinctively in what direction we could go and it was a direction she wanted to head in. We clicked at the very beginning.”
Hurlbut Zander refers to Bailey as Peruvian Connection’s muse. Instinctive as ever, Bailey brings fresh perspective to the brand while maintaining PC’s distinctive DNA in “the love of handwork, the luxurious fibers, the Andean textile tradition that has always been at the heart of what we do.”
The collaboration is available to shop on Peruvian Connection’s website, in Peruvian Connection’s six stores in NYC, as well as in one in London.
What do you get when you put a former Editor In Chief and the pioneer of an artisanal success story in the same room? A beautifully joyful collaboration.
