White kitchens have been Pinterest porn for years, but white appliances - particularly your range and refrigerator - have always been a different story. They conjure images of starter apartments, with high-gloss finishes and chipped enamel, where you continually pop the dial off every time you try to preheat the oven.

It's a cheap look, one GE's designers were all too aware of, but still, they knew there had to be a way to redeem them. After seeing how matte black appliances took the world by storm, they started experimenting - and found a style that made executives stop in their tracks and admire. Launching August 1, the company rolled out the Matte Collection under its Café brand, offering ranges, hoods, refrigerators, and dishwashers in a sleek matte white or matte black. But that's not even the sexiest part - these appliances are totally customizable, so you can trade out your knobs and handles to fit the rest of your kitchen.

If you're feeling brushed copper, you can go with that. Or, if you prefer a murdered-out look (all black errrrything), you can go brushed black. There's also a bronze option and classic stainless steel, and if you get sick of one option after a while, you can order a different color and trade them out.

Even little details are considered here - rather than sticking with a flat, matte white, there's a slight luster to the color, so it reflects the light in your kitchen, making the space feel warmer and brighter. GE also moved the logo, which you typically see in the upper corner of any fridge, into a sleek cuff on the door handle, where it's more discreet. Kind of like jewelry for your kitch.

The luxe look will set you back more than the kitschy, high-gloss white appliances you knew in the '90s. Fridges cost anywhere from $3,299 to $3,499, depending on how you trick them out; dishwashers go for $1,699-$1,749; and ovens and ranges vary from $3,499 to $7,099. Still, that's nowhere near the cost of a Viking refrigerator or Le Cornue range.
