May 13—The staff of James A. Garfield National Historic Site in Mentor recently announce that it will host six free outdoor concerts this summer.
They are:
May 28, 7 p.m.: Hillcrest Concert Band
June 6, 7 p.m.: University Heights Symphonic Band
June 22, 2 p.m.: Erie Heights Brass Ensemble
July 20, 2 p.m.: Lake Effect Concert Band
July 28, 2 p.m.: Lakeland Community College Summer Band
Aug. 17, 2 p.m.: Great Geauga County Fair Band.
Those attending these free outdoor concerts are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, sunscreen, and drinks, according to a news release. Picnic baskets are welcomed, but alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
"The lawn behind the Garfield home is a great place to take in live music," Acting Site Manager Allison Powell stated in a news release. "The concerts are also great connections to the history of Garfield's 1880 presidential campaign, when numerous bands played here for the candidate and his family."
The Garfield National Historic Site is located at 8095 Mentor Ave. in Mentor.
