The 'Game of Thrones' Season 8 Trailer Will Give You Chills
We all knew Game of Thrones was coming to an end, of course, but now that HBO has released the full trailer for the eighth and final season of the show, it's hard not to feel chills as we head to the finish line.
The two-minute clip is filled to the brim with glimpses of the action to expect, Easter eggs, and fan service that will surely be immediately turned into memes. It's also just, in classic Game of Thrones fashion, visually stunning.
There's a whole lot to unpack here, but the main takeaway is: Expect the war between the flesh-and-blood living residents of Westeros and the zombie-like White Walkers with their army of undead wights to come to a head. The battle is sure to be the biggest the fantasy series based on George R.R. Martin's novels has staged, and it has staged some pretty killer battles already. We see Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen (who have their own, uh, incestuous issues to work out) leading their forces, including those helpful dragons, on the front lines. And a brief shot of a wight horse's hoof at the end of the montage is enough to stoke thrills as well as dread for anyone who's been told that winter is coming for eight years: Yes, it's finally here.
The other main characters get their own moments in the trailer, which opens with a terrified-looking Arya Stark running around. She also says ominously, "I know death. He's got many faces. I look forward to seeing this one." Meanwhile, Cersei Lannister stares into a fire with extreme unease in a way that suggests she, too, knows she's probably about to die. It's not all doom and gloom, though, luckily: A shot of Grey Worm and Missandei passionately kissing is enough to make any Game of Thrones fan swoon.
It's all going to go down on April 14.
