Fun in the sun: Louisville parks with spray pads, spraygrounds to enjoy this summer
Summer is right around the corner, which means school is out, the sun is bright and the heat is coming.
To beat the summer heat and have fun, Louisville has many park activities, including spraygrounds and spray/splash pads.
What is the difference between a spray pad and a sprayground?
According to the Louisville Parks and Recreation website, a modern sprayground is an "interactive and/or complex spray elements with electronic timing."
On the other hand, traditional spray pads are "converted wading pools, typically with a single obelisk that sprays water," the website states.
In both cases, they operate 20 to 25 weeks and are open from dawn to dusk, the website states.
Aside from the parks operated by Louisville Parks and Recreation, other parks around Louisville that have spraygrounds—Beckley Creek Park, 1310 South Beckley Station Road, the Louisville Zoo, 1100 Trevilian Way and Waterfront Park in downtown Louisville.
