This Frida Kahlo-themed party raised nearly $2 million for a New York City museum
Frida Kahlo might be one of Mexico City’s most famous residents, but the late artist’s spirit made the trip to New York City on the evening of April 16 when the Brooklyn Museum held its annual Brooklyn Artists Ball and Kahlo-currently the subject of a stunning exhibition-served as inspiration. The evening honored artist Nick Cave and art funders Bank of America, and a crowd of more than 1,200 guests, including JR, Dao-Yi Chow, Mickalene Thomas, and Swizz Beatz (who was the DJ for the after-party), made its way to the museum for cocktails, an immersive performance, dinner, and dancing. At the end of the night, nearly $2 million had been raised to support the museum’s programming and education initiatives.
