All Four Coaches on 'The Voice' Turned Their Chairs for This Hurricane Survivor's Blind Audition
DeAndre Nico has had a year of incredible highs and lows. The singer survived Hurricane Harvey in Texas, only to make his way to The Voice and get all four judges to fight over him.
On Wednesday night’s episode, Nico talked about how his family lost everything when the hurricane hit his state. He and his family were stranded in their home for two days without food, water, or electricity before they were rescued-then their house was deemed uninhabitable and it was foreclosed upon. "Since the hurricane, all I’ve been doing is gigging and sleeping on couches," he said, tearing up. "That’s really all I have, is music."
Nico took the stage on The Voice and sang Bruno Mars’ "When I Was Your Man," and the coaches were all clearly impressed. Adam Levine turned his chair around first, and then Jennifer Hudson followed suit. Despite her pleading for Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton to not turn their chairs around, they ended up doing just that, and Nico got a four-chair turn out of his performance.
Ultimately, he chose Levine as his coach. "I said [I’d pick] whoever turned first, so I choose you, Adam!" he said. “DeAndre’s a beast. His voice was soulful and it was rich," Levine said. "He is so special and so talented. I’ve been looking for a DeAndre for a minute."
My team was great… and now DeAndre? I’ll be shocked if I lose this season #VoicePremiere

The season has just started, but this isn't the first time we've seen all four judges turn around for a contestant. During the premiere, 13-year-old Kennedy Holmes wowed the panel with her powerful rendition of "Turning Tables."
The Voice airs on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
