Former First Daughter Barbara Bush Marries Craig Louis Coyne at the Bush Compound in Maine
Another former first daughter is married. Barbara Bush, daughter of former President George W. Bush, married screenwriter Craig Louis Coyne on Sunday, October 7, at her family’s compound in Kennebunkport, Maine.
The political scion, 36, looked resplendent in a silk crepe gown custom designed by Vera Wang. The foundation head was accompanied down the aisle by her father while her grandfather, former President George H. W. Bush proudly looked on.
“Barbara is named for a unique and strong woman — and rightly so, because she is unique and strong,” the former Commander in Chief expressed on Instagram. “@laurawbush and I are so proud of our compassionate, daring, fierce, kind, intelligent, loving daughter. And we’re thrilled to welcome Craig Coyne to our family.”
The venue is particularly sentimental since the Bush family compound is where her grandfather married her late grandmother, Barbara Bush, who passed away this spring. Of course the bride’s twin sister Jenna Bush Hager was there to support her beloved sister, even sharing details about the intimate occasion on the Today show on Monday.
“It was a very secret wedding—a little bit like my elusive sister,” Hager said Monday on the program. Of course, as the matron of honor, Hager delivered a speech that was centered on family.
“I ended with a letter that my grandfather wrote to my grandmother, because I searched all the romantics and Shakespeare just wasn’t doing it,” she said. “[My grandfather] was sitting right next to me as I read it.”
The Today show correspondent’s daughters Mila and Poppy both had roles in the ceremony adorably as the ring bearer and the flower girl. “My heart exploded last night as I watched my dearest sissy get married in Maine. It was just like her: private (only family!) and full of love (and yes lots of tears!),” Hager wrote Monday morning alongside a sweet photo of herself embracing the bride by the bluffs. “Happy tears, heart exploding as I watched this beautiful girl get married in the place that means love and family. I’m so proud to be this beauties sister.”
Former First Lady Laura Bush also shared a family snapshot amongst other images on social media. “It was a wonderful day in Maine when Barbara married her love and Craig joined our family,” she wrote, alongside a pic taken by Paul Morse Photo.
